Training Content

Joint Health and Safety Committee Part 1 training is designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills needed to enhance workplace safety. The training typically covers: Introduction to JHSC: Overview of the roles and responsibilities of JHSC members. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Legislation: Understanding the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), worker rights, and responsibilities. Importance of Workplace Safety: The role of workplace parties in maintaining a safe working environment. Hazard Recognition and Assessment: Techniques for identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace hazards. Incident Reporting and Investigation: Procedures for reporting and investigating workplace incidents. Internal Responsibility System (IRS): Emphasizing the system that places primary responsibility for health and safety on workplace parties.

JHSC Part 2 training builds upon the foundation provided by Part 1 training. It's designed to address specific hazards unique to a workplace and equip participants with more advanced skills in hazard management. Key concepts include: Review of Part 1 Concepts: Reinforcement of key principles and roles of JHSC members. Understanding Provincial Hazard Priorities: Focus on high-risk hazards as outlined by Ontario regulations. Practical Hazard Management: In-depth training on recognizing, assessing, controlling, and evaluating workplace-specific hazards. Legislation and Standards: Detailed look at the relevant laws, standards, and guidelines for identified hazards. Developing Action Plans: Creation of actionable strategies to address and mitigate workplace hazards effectively.

JHSC Refresher training is designed to ensure that certified members stay up-to-date with their knowledge and skills, as well as with any legislative or policy changes. Expect to consider: Review of Key Concepts: A recap of the essential principles from JHSC Part 1 and Part 2 training programs. Legislative Updates: Information on recent changes to legislation, standards, and codes of practice that impact workplace health and safety. Practical Applications: Workshops and discussions to help participants learn from each other’s experiences and tackle potential health and safety challenges. Emerging Issues: Addressing new and emerging workplace hazards and how to manage them.
